Now here's a face we rarely see Poonya make. But let's remember, adorable as she is, she's still a member of the bear family. She will not stand aside when trouble comes her friends' way.

This is for my special lemur boy :iconmoonmaster: who's been going through some badness these past few days.

...Damn tiny ass scanners.

jeez, is that to scale?! Poonya looks gigantic, though I guess I've really never seen a red panda and a lemur in the same place before ^^;
As always, awesome expression work, Sara - if everyone could convey emotion the way you do, there'd be a lot less stoics in the world XD

"Don't try to justify this, Juno!"
:iconmavuriku:
It's actually not to scale. If I were to go by true animal size, a lemur is about half the size of a red panda. I may just change that when I color this.

Awesome job!
I love all the detail in the fur and stuff! It looks gorgeous! ^^

But, just noticed.. The red panda is in the raccoon family, not the bear family. x:

I'm going to tell you what I told to another fellow.

Yes, the red panda has recently been put into their own order called Ailurudae, which it a trichotomy within the broad superfamily Musteloidae that includes Mephitidae (skunks), Procyonidae (raccoons), and Mustelidae (weasel, mink, wolverine, badger).

BUT, according to the fossil record, the Red Panda diverged from its common ancestor with bears about 40 million years ago. With this divergence, by comparing the sequence difference between the red panda and the raccoon, the observed mutation rate for the red panda was calculated to be an underestimate compared with the average rate in mammals. This underestimation is probably due to multiple recurrent mutations as the divergence between the Red Panda and the raccoon is extremely deep.”

So even BEFORE their present classification, they were derived from bears.

Regardless, this is my consensus. Poonya is a red panda, which is part of the bear family. Since Poonya is a fictitious character of my own creation, it's only fitting that I create the world she comes from, including her genetic make up.

As far as I'm concerned, Poonya may be Ailuridae, but she's not ignorant to her Ursidae roots.

HEH, it's funny the excuses people make for their characters.
ALL members of the raccoon family came from bears. And you know what? Now they aren't bears anymore! xD
From what I've seen of real red pandas (which I'm going to be seeing much more of, once I start working/volunteering at a nearby zoo) they rarely get upset, unlike several other animals in the raccoon. Namely raccoons and Kinkajous. (worked with these guys, too, and they're /MEAN/)

But, if she's supposed to be from a different world and thereby look/behave differently, it would be wise to either give her a new species name, or state that she is unlike real red pandas. Then you wouldn't have to try and defend yourself so often.

Sorry, can't do that. I don't roll over for the bounds of reality when it comes to artistic inclination.

You kind of contradicted yourself, there.. But, whatever helps you sleep at night!

ok ok OK!! If you can honestly be this nit picky about ART then you need to find a better past time. I can understand if you want to defend some knowledge you think to be absolute, but going so far as to cut into someone else for doing an amazing drawing they made up out of THEIR own mind by telling them they are wrong, inferior, and trying to defend themselves... you seriously need to find something else better to do with your time like, oh I don't know, DRAW MORE!!!!!!!!!!! Oh and learn to shut your damn mouth when NOBODY WANTS TO FUCKING HEAR IT!!!!!!!!!!
